Platelet rich plasma therapy
Platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) combats the effects of sagging and wrinkled skin by stimulating collagen production. This gives the skin a plumper, more youthful appearance and even fills fine lines and wrinkles. It's become know as the 'Vampire face lift' because it uses the patient's own blood.
How it works
Treatment involves taking a sample of the patient's blood, which is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma from the blood. This PRP is then injected directly into the patient's damaged skin.
What to expect
The procedure will take around one hour. A local topical anaesthetic cream is applied prior to the procedure, so discomfort should be minimal.
Results
Three cycles of treatment are recommended, each three months apart. Results are gradual, improving over each treatment. Some swelling and bruising can be expected following treatment, lasting a few days. Results usually last for a few years.
Recovery time
Some swelling and bruising can be expected following treatment, and may take around one week to disappear, although the patient should be able resume normal activities the day after the procedure.
