Medical micro-needling

Medical micro-needling with Dermaroller® is a well-established technique to improve skin texture, tighten the skin and treat scars. It is often medically referred to as collagen induction therapy (CIT) or percutaneous collagen therapy (PCI).

Medical micro-needling differs from over-the-counter and non-medical micro-needling techniques in that the deeper parts of the skin are able to be treated without removing the top layers of skin. This achieves maximum cell regeneration and the smallest skin puncture possible.

How it works

During medical micro-needling, a series of fine, sharp needs are rolled over the surface of the skin, creating many, microscopic punctures into the deeper layers of skin. This encourages the body to produce new collagen and elastin, which generate new skin cells. This results in thicker, plumper skin and a more youthful appearance.

What to expect

Treatment takes between 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. A topical anaesthetic will be applied; however, you may still feel some discomfort.

Results

Rejuvenation of the skin may be seen a soon as two weeks. Treatment lasts for six to eight months.

Recovery time

Recovery may take 24 hours to a few days, although most people should be able to return to work the following day. You are likely to experience some redness and swelling directly after treatment.
